I am an Associate Professor in the School of Computer Science at the University of Birmingham. I am also the Director of Undergraduate Studies.
I am interested in natural language processing, in particular, sentiment analysis. I'm looking into how discourse function affects supervised machine learning classifiers trained to tackle this problem.
I have an Erdős number of 4. Interestingly, this spans academic work on the dimensions of a graph, followed by work on unidirectional linguistic comprehension and the penultimate link is a paper on the elimination of deception and mistaken beliefs. Unfortunately, my Erdős-Bacon-Sabbath number does not compare personally (although for my namesake it is not bad at 4-3-3)!
This academic year I am the module leader for the Programming for Data Science and Natural Language Processing modules.
